Copy-cat Sweet and Sour Sauce

My kids love McDonald’s Sweet and Sour sauce. In addition to McNuggets being super unhealthy, the sauce itself is full of sugar. So I tried to replicate it with healthier options. It’s still not healthy, but at least it’s better than the original!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Polaner All-Fruit apricot

  • 4 TBS water

  • 3 TBS apple cider vinegar

  • 3 tsp corn starch

  • 1 tsp soy sauce

  • 1 tsp spicy brown mustard

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder

Directions

  • In a small sauce pan, add the Polaner All Fruit.
  • In measuring cup, add water, sauce sauce, and vinegar.
  • Add corn starch to measuring cup and immediately whisk together to prevent clumping of the corn starch.
  • Add liquid ingredients to sauce pan.
  • Add salt and garlic powder.
  • Whisk all ingredients together.
  • Turn on heat to medium whisking as the sauce cooks.
  • Bring to a boil. Then simmer as you keep whisking for 5 minutes.
  • Serve with your favorite dippable food, like nuggets, pretzels, or even veggies!

Notes

  • The clumps of the All Fruit should dissolve as you cook. If you prefer a smoother texture, you can always use an immersion blender before cooking.
