Despite the name, this is NOT a form of pizza! Braising meat in a tomato sauce tenderizes the meat and makes it delicious. This is a great budget-friendly family meal to serve over pasta. You can make with individual steaks, but I used a London broil because it is the perfect size for my family of 4.

2 lbs piece of uncooked top sirloin / London broil
Garlic salt
1 onion, finely chopped
5 cloves garlic, finely chopped
1 can San Marzano tomatoes
1 can crushed tomatoes
4 oz. dry red wine
1 tsp Italian seasoning
1 TBS chopped and pitted kalamata olives
1 TBS capers
2 pepperoncinis, chopped (or 2 TBS of banana peppers)
Pinch of crushed red pepper
Directions
- Season meat with garlic salt.
- Heat large pot. Once a sprinkle of water dances and dissolves in a few seconds, sear the meat in the hot pan on both sides.
- Place seared meat in a plate to the side.
- Then deglaze the pot with the red wine.
- Add onions and bring wine to a boil. Once boiling, add garlic, tomatoes, and Italian seasoning. Stir well and bring to a boil.
- Add olives, capers, pepperoncini, and crushed red pepper to pot. Mix well.
- Add steak back into pot. Simmer sauce and meat for about half hour until meat is cooked.
- Remove meat from pot and let sit for five minutes. Slice meat and put back into the sauce.
- Serve meat and sauce over pasta.
Notes
- You can add other vegetables like bell peppers, leeks, and artichokes.
