4 tea bags of black tea
24 oz. hot water
12 oz. blackberries
1/2 cup sugar
juice and zest of 1 lime
Directions
- Every tea type is best brewed at a different temperature so check your tea. If using black tea, bring water to 200 degrees. You can use a water kettle.
- Add the water to a pitcher, and add the tea bags. Let steep for 6 minutes (or if a different type of tea, check).
- Cool the tea in the fridge.
- On the stove, add the blackberries, sugar, and lime zest and juice.
- Over a medium heat, bring to a boil. Using a potato masher, mash the blackberries as they heat.
- Once boiling, turn temperature to low and let simmer for about ten minutes.
- Place a wire mesh over a large bowl. Strain the blackberry mixture into the bowl.
- Add the syrup into a jar. Store in a fridge.
- Once ready for your tea, add a teaspoon of the syrup to a glass of tea. Serve over ice. Adjust the amount of syrup for desired sweetness.
Notes
- The syrup is versatile and can be used in many other recipes.
- You can use a different type of tea – just check out the seep time and best temperature to brew your tea.
- You can make the syrup with any berry you would like.
